Wednesday 13 September 2017

Carp 42 km L1

10:00 am. start at KTC. Mostly flat. Cycle west along Richardson Side Rd, north along Oak Creek Rd, west along McGee Side Rd then north along Diamondview Rd. Follow Donald B. Munro Dr to Carp. Stop for snacks & drinks at Alice’s Village Café. Return to KTC along Old Carp Rd, Second Line Rd,Terry Fox Dr. and Hertzberg.

Swan on the Rideau ~80 km L2

9:30 am start at KTC with a pick up at Cedarview and Hunt Club at 10:00 am. Susan is testing out a new route to Swan on the Rideau. It's basically a combination of the routes from KTC and Centrepointe. This route will be via designated bike lanes and quiet country roads. Please call or email Susan if you need more info.

Carlton Place 79 km L3

09:30 am start at KTC. Cycle west along Richardson Side Rd, Old Almonte Rd and through Appleton to Carlton Place for lunch at a café on Bridge St. Return to KTC along 9th Line Rd through Ashton, and then Flewellyn Rd to Stittsville and then along Abbott, Iber, Huntmar and Palladium.

Heart & Soul Cafe Dunrobin* 34 km L1

09:30 am. start at the Richcraft Recreation Complex. A mostly flat cycle to Dunrobin via Old Second Line, Marchurst and Thomas A Dolan Pkwy. Coffee stop at the Heart and Soul Cafe. Return along Thomas A Dolan and Old Second Line.

Join us at 17:45 pm at Centrum Parking Lot near the Holiday Inn for impromptu tours of 90 to 120 minutes followed by socializing at a nearby pub. L1, L2, L3 and L4 speed groups arranged at the start depending on turnout. Sunset 7:15 pm.

Britannia-Morning Owl Coffee* 25 km L1/L2

10:00 am. start at the Britannia Park trolley Station. A leisurely cycle, mostly along pathways to the Kanata location of the Morning Owl Coffeehouse for a late morning coffee/refreshment. Return to Britannia mostly on the outbound route. The pace will be determined by the participants.

Pointe Gatineau* 55 km L2

10:00 am start at Bate Island. Cycle the bike path to Aylmer, then the bike path along 148, then north into the Gatineau Park for some hills. We then go East to pick up the Gatineau River and lunch at Pointe Gatineau, either picnic or Resto Bar le Pirate. Return on bike paths to Bate Island.

Scoop's Pakenham* 53 km L3

09:30 am. Start at the Carp Arena parking lot. Cycle along Carp Rd and Kinburn Side Rd to Scoops in Pakenham for an ice cream or snack. Return to Carp along Blakeney Rd, Panmure Rd and Donald B Munro Dr.

Richmond 40 km L1

10:00 am. start at KTC Cycle along Katimavik to Huntmar out to Stittsville and connect with Huntley Rd via West Ridge Drive. Continue to Richmond and stop at bakery for a snack and return to Kanata via Shae and Abbott Roads and follow outbound route from there.

2. Multi-day tour: Picton, Prince Edward County ~ 111 Km over two Days Sept. 23 - 24 L1

Day 1 - 23 Sept 2017

10:00 am. Start at the Picton Community Centre and cycle along country roads. Visit wineries and other attractions along the way (Waupoos Winery, County Cider Company, Fifth Town Cheese).

Day 2 - 24 Sept. 2017

Day two will be organized by the Kiwanis Fall Colour Ride (formerly Colour Cribbage Ride).

The ride will start and finish at the Picton Community Centre. Other ride distances are 100 km and 25 km (if you so choose).

100 km ride to start at 9:00 am and the 56 km and 25 km rides will launch promptly at 10:00 am. Riders should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before their start times to ensure their registration for their ride.

On-site registration begins at 8:00 am.

Lunch will be served starting at 12:00 noon and continue until the last rider has been fed.

Every participant will receive a voucher towards their choice of local County produce on display in the hall. Display include Cressy Mustard , Nyman Farms , Barley Days Brewery, Waupoos Estates Winery.

3. Safety Tip from Monna - Left Hand Turns

Left Hand Turns can be a bit daunting when you are just starting out. Remember - you are a vehicle, and you must position yourself accordingly - always turn left from the centre or the left side of the lane. Shoulder check, signal, shoulder check again, then move to the centre or left side of the lane. Yield to approaching traffic before turning.

Signal prior to entering the intersection to communicate your intentions. Make the turn with both hands on the handlebars for maximum control.

Saturday Sept. 23: Cyclosportive Perth: a friendly Fall cycling event

Rides of 100 km, 100 miles, and 118 km on a combination of paved and dirt roads. Registration is $80 until Sept. 14.
