Our rides this year have a wide range of distances and speeds. We suggest you choose rides that match your endurance and biking speed.
Starting
Time
Tours
leave on time, so please arrive at least ten minutes prior
to the indicated departure time.
Starting
Points
Tours that show Kanata as a starting point refer to the Kanata Town
Centre, 150 Katimavik Road, in the parking lot near Kanata Opticians.
Centrepointe starts mean the parking lot between Marshy's and the City
of Ottawa building on Centrepointe Drive.
Distances
Distances quoted are believed to be within plus or minus 10%. Note that
it is about 50 km to downtown Ottawa and back from Kanata.
Speed
Ratings
S1 = 18–21 km/hr; S2 = 22–24 km/hr; S3
= 25–27 km/hr; S4 = over 27 km/hr
(Based on a cruising speed on level ground with little or no wind.)
A ride with two speed ratings, e.g. S1,S2 or S2,S3, means that there
will be two groups each with its own tour leader.
*Remote
Starts
A stars mean a remote start. For these tours, riders should
call
ahead and inform the tour leader that they plan to be on the ride and
leave a number where they can be reached. If you don't call ahead and
the tour is cancelled, nobody will be able to inform you.
If a ride has both standard and remote starts, the above only applies
if you plan to join the ride at the remote starting point.
Riders needing a drive may call the tour leader who may be able to
arrange or help you arrange a lift.

24 May 2010: Prince Edward
County
Based in Picton.
Arrive Friday, May 21st. Come
early for an optional day of golfing followed by dinner at Waring
House.
Saturday's tour will include visits to Fifth Town Artisan Cheese
Company (and
their platinum LEED buliding), Waupoos Winery and/or The County Cider
Company,
lunch at Milford Bistro, and stops at Point Petre Provincial Wildlife
Area and
perhaps the Point Petre Lighthouse. Dinner is planned for the
Blumen
Garden Bistro. Sunday's route will be through Mountain View,
Ameliasburg,
Consecon and Hillier for lunch at The Grange of Prince Edward winery
before
returning to Picton through Bloomfield with a stop at the bike shop
there. Enjoy a nice, quick dinner at Schooners Fish & Chips
in Picton
before returning home, or stay one more night and tour on your own on
the
holiday Monday. Contact the tour leader for complete
details. This
tour is limited to 15 people maximum. Book early as accommodation
is
expected to be at a premium on this holiday weekend. Distances
will be
about 85 km/day at S2 speeds.

Train du Nord
Meet early on Monday
morning in Ottawa for car-pooling to
Mont Laurier, Quebec for four days of cycling along and around the
P'tit Train
du Nord linear park rail trail. Ride through the various
communities and
attractions along the way to Saint-Jerome. Return to Mont Laurier
on
Thursday on a shuttle bus, then drive back to Ottawa.

tour but

2010-Sunday 4 July
2010: Ottawa-Oka/Hudson-Montreal
A three-day cycle tour
to Oka/Hudson and western areas of
Montreal. On day 1, cycle from Ottawa or Masson to Oka along la
Route
Verte. Accommodation choices are either Gites sous les pins in Oka
(economical
option, ph. 1-800-665-6527) or Willow Place Inn in Hudson (upscale
option,
www.willowplaceinn.com). Day 2 starts with a visit to the former
monastery site in Oka which is now the source of Oka cheese and
continues
through Oka National Park to Laval, L'Isle Bizard, and
Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue
for a lunch stop. In the afternoon, we cycle to Isle Perrot then
along
the Soulanges canal on the way back to Hudson and Oka. On the
third day,
we cycle home along a route on the Ontario side of the Ottawa
River.
There will be a maximum of 10 cyclists for this trip.

2010: Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec City
Depart Ottawa early on
July 24th and take 3 days to cycle
to Montreal. We will stay 2 nights in Montreal, for a rest/short
cycle
day. After that, we'll set off on July 28th from Montreal taking
4 days
to reach Quebec City, staying at Berthierville, Trois Rivieres and Cap
Sante en
route and following La Route Verte cycle path. We will be staying
in
hotels, motels, a university dorm and a hostel. Participants will
be making
their own reservations at some, at others we will make a group booking.
We will be carrying panniers and don't expect to have a sag wagon
(volunteers welcome!) Once in Quebec City, there will be a choice
of
staying 2 nights or more before returning to Ottawa via bus
(www.orleansexpress.com) or by train to Brockville, spending one night
in
Brockville and cycling home from there. It is the responsibility
of the
individual cyclists to make their own arrangements to return to
Ottawa.
We are limiting participation to 15, due to accommodation restrictions
in some
of the communities we'll be staying at.
We will be cycling at
S2 pace, typically 70 km to 100 km
per day.

2 August 2010: Alexandria
Bay and Sackets Harbor, NY, 225 km, S2
A 3-day, 2-night
unsupported tour in NY state. We
drive to Kingston, Ont. and leave our cars there. On day 1, we
take the
ferry to Wolfe Island, bike across it (11 km), take a second ferry to
Cape
Vincent, bike along the Seaway Trail through Clayton to Alexandria Bay,
NY, and
stay there for the first night. On day 2, we head south going
around
Watertown to Sackets Harbor on Lake Ontario for the second night.
On day
3, we follow Lake Ontario as close as we can, including a loop around a
peninsula jutting out into Lake Ontario. We arrive back at Cape
Vincent
and retrace our route across Wolfe Island back to Kingston.

17. S4 riders will meet the S3 group for the start at Arnprior
but will
break away at Fitzroy Harbour to return to KTC. >From Arnprior,
cycle
on CR#1 along the Ottawa River to the bridge/dam at Portage du Fort and
then
along the Quebec side to Norway Bay for lunch. Return to the
Ontario side
on the Quyon Ferry and cycle back to Arnprior through Fitzroy Harbour
and
Galetta.
